Minor Update

Slight update - the Van's engine is dead. They are looking in to the price for a certified used engine for us. Estimate unavailable until they can find someone with the correct parts, but the ballpark for a van engine replacement calls for three to four thousand dollars. ouch.

Well, we haven't heard back from the shop yet, as they need to find an engine before they can give us anything other than a ballpark. She's a pretty common make and model, so we're hoping that won't be overly hard.

The other thing is that from when we went shopping for her, replacing the engine would be cheaper than replacing her, to say nothing of the fact that she's pretty much the family vehicle at this point. (The engine replacement includes a year warranty on it, and Louis spent enough time as customer service at Saturn that he tends to always take warranties on things like engines.)

If it comes down to it, we'll rent a UHAUL van with a tow hook and haul her home to our standard mechanic. We'd prefer not to have to do that, but knowing that the option is there is relief worthy. The hotel is on the main strip in town, so we've got various food places in easy walking distance and even what I think is a car rental place.

As an added note, thank you to both you and everyone else that's tossed money our way. We've got a hotel room for the next two nights, and we can get food, so we're not trying to figure out what to do hungry and stuck at a repair shop. Our updates slowed down for a bit because we've been sleeping most of the time since we checked into the hotel.

I've gotten temporarily stranded a couple of times on cross-country drives, and even with plenty of slack on the credit card (more than ten years ago!), it's still not fun. I hope you guys are okay.
