it really is it really couldn't have been anyone else but you know Basti would want to ~be cool~ and stuff. I like to imagine he has the bleach-blond look here because that look is hilarious.

all you need to know: giant robots fight giant monsters, the giant robots are piloted by two soulbonded pilots.

Freddie has his red hair and speaks Japanese vaguely competently and Tokyo loves him. :D (Jens was clearly a fine potential pilot, but no one wanted to work with him because he was absolutely nuts, and Freddie liked that idea.)

their giant robot features projectiles. and they fight so well together because they both have temper issues.

soooooo tell me what happens to make soulbonded pilots stop piloting together. is there trauma/death/is this covered in the film which i should really see before i start planning an inevitable branch of this au.

well in the movie Hero Guy pilots with his brother at first, and then the brother dies while they're fighting a giant monster, so part of the movie is Hero Guy's manpain about it and coming back to fight more giant monsters with a new partner. but they never show a team splitting up by choice, so who knows! (in this one I'm planning that Bastian and Philipp were always the soulbonded pilots, and Timo was doing something else on base/training - computers, I think? - and he and Philipp fell in love and then Timo broke his heart because apparently that's something I have to play out in like every AU.)
