I watch quite a few films and don't post enough, so I am going to post about films I watch. The first is The Happening.
I didn't have great expectations from the trailer, or from reviews, but I'll generally watch anything Sci-fi and I did like some of the director's other work, like Sixth Sense and The Village.
The Happening was very disappointing, in fact the only film I can remember finding quite as boring is Wimbledon.
The initial premise was interesting enough, with people becoming confused, doing a funny walk backwards, then commiting suicide. And all the bees are disappearing. They don't quite sort out why the bees are disappearing, but I think Dr Who will save the day with that one.
I didn't think the opening mass suicide scenes were that horrifying though, but perhaps I'm jaded. And the big problem was I found it hard to care about what was 'happening' or not. I thought the reason behind the suicides was a bit silly and the attempts to make the parties behind the suicides menacing didn't work at all for me and just seemed a bit daft. I won't say any more in case of spoilers.
At a couple of stages we wondered if it was meant to be a comedy, but if it is, it's not particularly funny. There was one scene that was meant to be funny, but with Mark Wahlberg's way pf acting it, we only worked out it was meant to be funny after we had been laughing at it for being a very silly scene indeed. Not to be too harsh on Mark Wahlberg or his co-stars, they didn't have that much to work with.
Not even so bad it's good.
