vocal porn: anti-feminist? WHERE DO YOU STAND.

Nov 10, 2009 17:56

just kidding.

do you know how hard it is to make a record? it takes a lot of work. vulnerability you (usually) didn't ask to share with someone. vocal porn all over the place and not even getting paid for it.

my sister was talking about PJ Harvey's vocals on Rid of Me, being mixed low, and people's analyses of that, in a world where sheryl crow is about as 'ragged' a voice as a woman can have and still have a mainstream pop hit, and alanis morrissette still (STILL!) somehow stands in to represent  all "angry women in rock," when you talk music with some stupid dude.

i have a lot to say but i'm going out now. so i'll just say, if i had a quarter for every time the harshness of my voice got criticized by a nontrans dude, i'd be so fucking rich.

and then maybe i'll post again tomorrow about it. even though tomorrow is my one year anniversary of getting destroyed by a stupid dude.

everything's fucked. sigh.

misery
