“Hey -”
“Yo,” Fiona made a one-eighty on her feet to face her twin, taking long strides backward. “What’s up, you look kinda sad.”
“Oh,” Glynna hastened down the last stairs, reaching the ground and matching Fiona’s pace. “I just - are you all right?”
Swivelling back around, Fiona eyed her questioningly, and her furrowed brow was misread for confusion. It occurred to Fiona as detrimental that she was pretending to be fine rather than relieved. Glynna had noticed something for once, but for some reason, Fiona was forcing her to do all the detective work.
“With Janus,” Glynna prompted.
Fiona shrugged noncommittally. “Why?”
Unbeknownst to Fiona, Glynna was picking up on the signs. She was mentally ticking a checklist of things that indicated Something Wrong and Fiona Not Talking About It.
“I heard something.”
This time when Fiona frowned it was of real confusion.
“What did you hear?”
Glynna hesitated. Something about the phrasing of that last question matched none of the criteria. Quickly she went through her checklist and things she knew.
“Uhm,” she nearly stuttered. “Just - something. I thought - I might have been wrong ...”
Proper bemusement invaded Fiona’s features. She put a hand on Glynna’s chest and stopped her.
“What did you hear?” she insisted.
Panic overwhelmed Glynna. Concern for her sister had persuaded her to check up - but she had misread something. Surely if something was wrong with Janus, Fiona would know - but had Myr meant it was so secret even she was barred from knowing? There was something wrong with keeping that sort of thing secret from his girlfriend, honestly, but maybe the situation was worse than all that.
“Glynna!” Fiona had her arms out.
Oh no, Glynna gazed at her sister’s face. It emanated worlds of anxiety.
“No, no, no!” suddenly damage control was on her mind. “I was just talking to Myr and he said something but I think I was wrong, there’s - there - ” but Glynna found it impossible to say ‘nothing wrong’ because just remembering Myr’s expression told her something was terribly wrong. “I misunderstood! I thought it was - I thought you knew about it and you were upset because -”
“No! I wasn’t upset about that! I don’t even know what this is!”
Fiona raced away from Glynna - leaving her with her hand firm over her mouth as though that would erase the words she just let escape.
