so i still don't have an apartment. as of now, i have been to the final stages of getting one SEVERAL times only to have really really STUPID problems. for example, i do not understand why I'm supposed to verify that I make 3 times the monthly rent. What in the world does that show? Statistically, people across California tend to pay MORE than 1/3 of their income in rent, so why should I be held to a higher standard? It just pisses me off. I can deal crack, have loud parties and trash the apartment AS LONG AS I MAKE THREE TIMES THE RENT. If landlords and managers weren't so fucking lazy, maybe they could call my rental references and then they'd understand that, oh yeah, I have NEVER EVER paid rent late since i started renting in summer 2001, and i have NEVER had any complaints.
Maybe if they allowed co-signers I could put my parents on there for a while, but most places won't do that anymore (?!?!) and honestly my credit is great and my rental history is great so there is no reason to do that.
Secondly, please tell me if it is not incredibly illegal to tell me things like "sorry, I just want a family to live here" or "oh, well I want someone who has had the same job and lived in the same place for several years" (umm, age discrimination anyone?!)? It's illegal because it creates situations for people like me where i can NOT find a damn place to live. I have been working full time now for two weeks and am basically where I was six weeks ago when I started looking for apartments. Now it has come to the point where (1) i am tired of looking and (2) i do not have the ability to go to leasing offices anyway because they're never open when I'm not working! i called several places this past week and i could not see a single one of them before they were rented.
ARGH!!!
