off to a good start
i came into work today and discovered a fantastic surprise: melanie had left one of her amazing vegan cupcakes (marble with peanut-butter frosting; SO FUCKING GOOD) in my office. suddenly the irritation that had risen up in my mind upon seeing a hapless delivery guy weighed down with oversize bouquets and giant mylar heart-shaped balloons had subsided somewhat; perhaps i don't quite hate valentine's day so much as find it pointless.
i remember wearing a black dress to school junior year on valentine's day to signify indifference to all the girls who were called into the office during announcements to pick up their tacky displays of boyfriendly-affection, only to receive a valentine from a secret admirer whose identity i've never managed to ascertain. still, it was a great dress.
scott and i are going to dinner at the harmony grill (where you and and eric had dinner last time you were here, vange) and then going home to watch "rome" on demand; it's too disgusting out to do anything more ambitious. i honestly wouldn't be surprised if we decided to eat at the thai place down the block instead of trekking to the el or digging the car out of its dirty-white prison.
hope you all have an equally satisfying day, even if you didn't have a cupcake for breakfast. though i'd highly recommend a cupcake for breakfast, given the opportunity.
