Update: “
The bill has been signed!!!”
“
The Death Penalty: A Worldwide Perspective” last edition has been published. Now in its fourth edition, it has been some six years since the last edition appeared and since then 16 countries have completely abolished capital punishment and the number that have executed anyone within the past 10 years has fallen by a quarter - from 71 to 51 by the end of 2007.
One of those countries which continues to use capital punishment is the United States. In 2008, 37 peoples have been executed. In 2009, it is already 15.
You can do something about it and right now New Mexico Governor's needs to hear from you.
Indeed, on Friday, March 13, 2009, The New Mexico Senate voted 24-18 to repeal the death penalty in New Mexico and replace it with a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole. In the past, Governor Bill Richardson has opposed a repeal, but now says he would consider signing it and he wants to hear from you. At his end, he set up a hotline to receive the opinion of his constituent (and anyone else). The number is 505-476-2225. Those wishing to weigh in via e-mail can do so through the “
governor’s website”
As fair as justice try to be it is still, a justice system of human being and human beings can make mistakes. That is why, please take action RIGHT NOW to urge Governor Richardson to sign the Death Penalty Repeal bill whether you live in New Mexico, or anywhere else! IF you know people who live in New Mexico, please forward this information and urge them to take this action immediately.
You do not have much time to make your mind (only 2 days from now) but if you need so, just have a look at the “
death penalty info website”. It is very informative and “
facts” talk by themselves.
