About Time

Oct 05, 2006 19:01

Even though I have a load of work I should be getting on with, I thought I would sit down for a while on here and update properly. I'm just sitting in my room at the moment, and I don't have any music on for once, so I can hear other people's wafting in through my walls and window. I feel a real sense of belonging here in Glasgow, especially at Strathclyde. I definately feel as though I'm where I'm meant to be. I get sick of walking up hills all the time and cooking myself dinner, but I'm really having a good time.

Tuesday 3rd October

We all decided to make a cake for Laura's birthday, so had gone out and gotten all the things we needed (Laura is one of my flatmates). Except that we thought we could use some artistic licence with it, and Amy thought she could make buttercream filling by melting half a lump of butter and putting icing sugar in it, hahahaha.

It was totally gross, so we just shoved a massiiiiff amount of icing sugar in it, and then some melted chocolate and put it on/in the cake. The cake actually burnt in the oven as well, so things weren't really going very well...lol. Saying that though, it didn't look too shoddy when it was finished.

It was more fun to make than it was to eat in the end. It was a bit hard cuz we didn't have anywhere to put it except in the microwave...? There was a load of icing left over, so I just absent-mindedly lifted a bit out and was rolling it in my hands and it happened to look like a turd, hehehehe. So we made a few more, set them in front of people's flat doors, knocked, and ran away laughing. We reused them by putting the in the pigeon hole things for everyone's post though. Was so funny and silly!

We went to the Lord Todd after, (the pub just across from my halls!) to have a night-early celebration of Laura's birthday. Everyone got a £5 cocktail jug.

I think time and time again of how lucky I am with my flatmates. They really are all really decent girlies, and lots of fun about them too.

Laura's party was last night in our flat, and we posted invites to everyone in our block. Not that many people actually came, but it was ok all the same. Before everything kicked off, we gave Laura her present and cracked open a bottle of bubbly. Ooo, get us! :P We bought her a dress that Eilidh had cleverly seen her try on but not buy because it was too expensive. So Laura was all pleased :) It was funny when we were all secretive about getting the candles organised for her cake. There was no need, because she had helped to make it!

The party didn't get ridiculously out of hand because we tried to only let in people we knew, but there were a few incidents, such as some random throwing an umbrella and our dish-drying rack out the window. The afore-mentioned random then tried to start a fight with our friend Adam, who proceeded to knock him out with a single punch :S Adam is all nice and sweet, so it was a bit of a shock to see him KO someone, and have that person lying on the ground with their eyes open and their 2 front teeth wobbly (we heard later that they fell out, eeeeek). The party wasn't quite as wild as it sounds though, so it was all good.

I went to Muay Thai boxing again yesterday, and this time Laura and Eilidh came with me. They went in a pair, so that left me on my own. The coach guy decided to pair me with Duncan, who competes and is as fit as. Fit in the hotness way and definately in the being able to excercise intensely way. It was pretty cool that he didn't "treat me like a girl", but when we were doing the leg kicks he gave me a dead leg with just 2 kicks, and that was with a big pad over my leg! After that he got a big dude to hold the pad, lol. I bought wraps for my hands yesterday, because my knuckles were destroyed since Duncan and I were using the Thai pads (the really firm ones, which = very sore to punch a lot), instead of the flash pads (nice and soft = can hit them quite hard and for a longer period of time!). I really enjoy boxing but I don't think I'll do the sparring side of things. Anyway, I need to get way more fit before I could even start to think about that. The training is pretty intense, and the room we train in is the worst sweat pit ever. I didn't think I could physically sweat so much....seriously, lol. I feel like I've done a proper work out after it though, which is nice.

Sore Elbow

My nice wraps

I still need to get the hang of wrapping my hands properly. It's not as easy as it looks!

Right, I had too much of a break in the middle of writing this, and now I'm gonna get stuck into some work of some sort. I know I have something to do...lol

Hope everyone is getting on ok.

Lou xx
