I shouldn't wait so long between updates because I forget what I've rented. Let's see here, I rented Lantana because Joe LaPlagnia is cool. I rented St Ives which sucked a lot. I rented Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead for Leah. In the theater I saw In the Cut and Beyond Borders. Veronica Guerin and Matrix Revolutions.
In my last post, I commented on Queer as Folk. It was a completely blind comment because I do not get Showtime and had never seen Queer as Folk. With nothing good at the video store, I decided to investigate. What a discovery that was. I find it so compelling and addictive. Given my recent stint watching Dawson's Creek, my opinion may no longer be credible. I don't care.
I famously described Queer as Folk to my mom, saying it's in the same genre as Sex in the City, but as fascinating as Six Feet Under. See, the three shows are comparable because they're made by either HBO or Showtime. Which means less censorship. Which was kinda what I was getting at before. First and foremost, guy with guy is hot and second, uncensored tv is really where we're going to find better programs.
Not just that they can swear and have lots of graphic sex, they push things and really explore. Not just Queer as Folk, this applies to Six Feet Under too. The character development is fascinating. I'm just blown away by their depth.
Having said that and that QaF is my new favorite tv show, it's a little more soap-operay than I origionally realized. Major problems get solved within an hour. There's a lot of camp and angst. But who says that's bad? I've quite enjoyed it.
Brian and Justin are our two favorite characters. Brian is beyond gorgeous. Leah says he's the new David Boreanaz...and you know what that means. After watching the an episode last night, Leah and I commented how little Brian reveals. Under that cold exterior lies the heart of a saint.
Then the second favorite character goes to Michael and Emmett. See Leah would say Emmett is tops. And while I agree, I think I like Michael a smidget more. He's the Talk Soup / I love the 80s guy.
And it's unanimously agreed upon that Ted is stupid.
