PREtense Drabble for 2x20

The Drabble bunny attacked me. Because.... Oh show. I just want Steve to not be alone, y'know? And maybe if the reason for the Steve shaped hole in my show was different...
Anyway...
PREtense
His sat phone rings, the same generic tone that he heard before his father was killed. It sends a stab of something through his gut that Danny, his Danno, who is sound in motion, can be silenced with a swipe of his thumb. Steve declines his call. For the seventeenth time.
It tears him inside to do it, to ignore the way his Danno, his present is calling, reaching out. Trying to help. But the past still haunts him, eats at him, evades him and he needs answers and closure.
Or else, he knows, they will never have a future.
