Character Info
Character Name: Lotus. Now, this is a bit tricky. Due to the dangerous nature of the Nonary Game in her canon, she doesn't give out her real name. She wakes with a bracelet with the number 8 on it, so she comes up with the codename Lotus, the flower with eight petals. Through gameplay, it's revealed her last name is Kashiwabara.
Character’s Age: 40
Fandom: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors
Timeline: From a 4-7-1 route, after going through door 9 with Ace, Santa, and June and leaving Junpei, Clover, Seven, and Snake behind.
Appearance: Despite her age, Lotus has magnificent looks. She's well-toned, has rather voluptuous breasts, and long, decorated and braided black hair. She wears rings, sandals, and a rather revealing top in-game, giving her the appearance of a dancer; in addition to that, she even has jewelry on her stomach and an overly extravagant necklace. Perhaps the most important feature of her appearance is the red wristwatch on her left hand. On it's screen, the time is not displayed. Instead, there is only the number 8, just as you'd expect to see it on a digital clock.
History: Before the Nonary game, her life wasn't difficult. She had two beautiful twin girls; she once worked in computer security, and she had a wealth of knowledge in psychology and history. One day, however, her kids went missing, along with fourteen others. It was a big case, and it was one that was never solved. Nine days later, however, they returned. At first, her children were silent, as if they had experienced something traumatic. She couldn't bring herself to ask them what happened; she thought it would hurt them. As they slowly returned to normal, once again laughing and telling jokes, she found it even harder. She never found out what happened.
Nine years later, she found herself gassed and passed out on the floor of her home. When she awoke, she was on a ship, in a room that was bare of many things. When the room started to flood, she managed to keep her cool and solve puzzles to escape. The door she opened had a large number 8, written in red paint as if it were blood, and the bracelet on her wrist had the same number on it as well. It mattered not, because she only wanted to escape.
She found she wasn't the only one. After scouring the ship, a group of nine had gathered. That's when she learned of the Nonary Game. She had nine hours before the ship sank, and to escape, she had to find the door number nine and open it with a group whose digital root equaled nine. As the plot thickened, she chose the nickname Lotus for herself, just in case whoever was watching them decided to hurt her family if she gave away too much information.
And thus, the Nonary Game began. Their goal was to escape the ship by finding a door with "9" on it within nine hours, but before anything could happen or plans could be made, the man with the 9 bracelet grabbed Clover and pulled her through to door number 9. He forced Ace, the man with the 1 bracelet, and Clover, who had the 4 bracelet, to activate the 5 door with him--1+9+=14, 1+4=5--and then he went into the door by himself.
81 seconds later, he exploded after pounding on the door and begging for someone to save him. Junpei, Lotus, and Ace reopened the door (5+8+1=14, 1+4=5). What they saw shocked them all--it was true, he had exploded, and they realized just how dangerous the game was. They all had bombs inside of them, and in order to enter a door, everyone who uses their bracelet into the equation must go through. It was then that Lotus finally realized she had to go through a door. The only other door was 4, and she didn't want to walk through the corpse, so she separated from the main group and entered it alongside Santa, the young man with 3, June, the childhood friend of Junpei who had 6, and Junpei himself who had 5 (8+5+6+3=22, 2+2=4).
Together, with her group, she helped solve puzzles relating to a kitchen lock, tags hidden in meat, using a shower curtain in one room to notice a pattern in the other, melting a candle to find a key, rearranging parts of a picture, using oil to open doors that were rusted, and sharpening knives. She also spoke to Junpei about Morphogenetic Fields, Morphic Resonances, and various thought experiments. After searching a long hallway with doors, she reunited with the other group in a room filled with hospital beds. It was then they discussed the possibility that they were on the Gigantic, a sister ship to the Titanic that used as a hospital bed. It was also, in that room, that they found the 3, 7, and 8 doors...only they were deactivated.
Once again, Lotus had to search through rooms, even though she protested. An hour later, when they all met back in the hospital room, the rooms had been acted, and Snake, the man with the number 2 bracelet, was nowhere to be found. They searched the ship again, and Lotus went to the Casino Room. Eventually, she was approached by Junpei and Jun, and she told them her plan to get them all through the number 9 door while leaving everyone else behind, as only 3-5 people would leave the ship alive (only three to five can open a door in this game). She continued this train of thought when they reunited after their search, once more in the hospital bed room, saying they could split into two groups and move through the 7 and 8 doors...if they left someone behind.
Ace volunteered, and Clover, distraught over her missing brother Snake, agreed to it all. While others protested, Ace injected himself with an anesthetic, putting himself to sleep, forcing the others to continue on. Lotus, pleased with herself, went through door number 8 with June and Santa (8+6+3=17, 1+7=8). The trio found themselves in the laboratory, once again forced to solve puzzles to get through. Lotus demonstrated her skills with computers while June, locked in a separate part of the room, passed items to and from Santa until they set the room she was in on fire, opening the emergency exit so they could escape.
Unfortunately, their search only yielded a key, and Lotus found herself back in the hospital rooms with the others, Ace included. Instead of going back to the front of the ship to use the keys, though, Clover insisted they searched door 3 for signs of her brother. That left Lotus, Santa, June, and Junpei to go back to the front of the ship. She went to the A deck, the highest deck, with Santa and they found the door number 1 using the key they found. June and Junpei found door number 6. When they regrouped with the others in the hospital room to see what they found in group three, Lotus learned something horrible. Two people had used their bracelets with Snake to open door number 3, forced him inside, and waited for him to explode by not entering the door with him.
That was the last straw. Desperate for a way out and using the key they discovered in the room Snake died, the group decided to choose doors by writing down what they wanted instead of saying it out loud. Lotus chose door number two--but unfortunately, she fought with Seven, the large man who constantly insulted her age, and ended up going through door number six with Seven, June, and Santa (8+7+6+3=24, 2+4=6). Once inside, they worked a coal machine to reveal a puzzle, and she worked a computer program to move boxes so they could access a coffin and get the card key for the way out.
It's what she found next that shocked everyone. She had found the nine door! Once they reunited with all the others in front of the two nine doors, they tried to figure out a plan to get the most they could out. They worked equations, and at one point, Seven even offered to sit out--if he wasn't in an equation, all of the others could go through. Lotus refused to accept this, but it didn't matter. Santa, using a gun he had found in the room with the coffin, grabbed June and put a gun to her head. He called out Ace and Lotus--if they didn't activate the door with him, he'd kill June.
Lotus hesitated, but ended up going through with it to save June's life. 8+3+6+1=18, 1+8=9. Santa, June, Ace, and Lotus went through the nine door...leaving Junpei, Clover, and Seven for the other nine door, knowing full well they couldn't open it (5+4+7=16, 1+6=7, not nine). Once the door shut behind her, her fate was sealed...Together with her group, she moved into the incinerator. Once inside, they found the final 9 door. It was then that Ace attacked Santa, knocking June to the side. In need of a new hostage to get his way, he held the revolver...to Lotus's head and pulled her too the door. By the time it had all happened, Junpei and the others caught up.
Ace tried to force the final 9 door open with his bracelet, 1, and the 9 bracelet he had stolen from the hallway the 9th man died in. 1+8+9=18, 1+8=9. He pulled the lever to open the door, Lotus desperately trying to get away, but nothing happened. The door did not open. Seven attacked Ace and freed Lotus, and she moved to hide behind Junpei...who then revealed everything he had learned. Ace planned the Nonary game four years ago. The man dead in the Captain's Quarters (the body Lotus never saw) was the financier, and the 9th Man worked on the mechanics and gadgets. The man they thought was dead in Room 3 was also part of their group, all from Cradle Pharmaceutical. And Ace killed them all--first, he tricked the ninth man into going through the door alone. Then, he found who he thought was Snake wandering the hallways after the first room...since Ace can't distinguish faces, he forced this man through the 3 door and left him to die (1+9+2=12, 1+2=3). When in the Captain's Quarters, he killed his former financier with a hatchet that was left, after stealing items to get through the room faster than Junpei.
That's when more was revealed. Junpei revealed that Santa was Zero, but Santa claimed to only be an assistant. The real zero was actually Akane--June--who had been in the Nonary game nine years prior. Santa, June, Snake, and Clover had played before! The revelation shocked Lotus, who could hardly understand it. It didn't matter, though--Santa moved through the final door with Ace, and June simply vanished...leaving Lotus, Seven, Snake, Clover, and Junpei in the incinerator. It started to count down--however, while communicating with the Akane from the past nine years, Junpei managed to solve the final puzzle. With minutes to spare, the answer was revealed.
8. 7. 5. 4. 2. 26. It wasn't the digital root they needed, though. With seconds remaining, Junpei realized the 9 was actually a q, and to get through, they needed all the members who Santa and June knew would remain. They knew 9 would die, that Ace would kill him, and that Ace would come with them. That left five players to open the final door...Junpei, Seven, Clover, Snake, and Lotus. In Hexadecimal...Q was 26. They all escaped and started running to the top of the ship. Relieved, Lotus took a moment to close her eyes and catch her breath as she ran...only she didn't open them on the ship.
She was in Bell Pointe.
Personality:
Lotus is a proud, fierce, and stubborn woman who won’t let anyone make decisions for her. She refuses to be pushed around, even when forced to play in a game for her life, and she has an extremely strong will to survive. She speaks about her skills and accomplishments with pride and an all-knowing smirk on her face, and in the face of danger she boldly moves forward no matter the situation…anything to survive. In one room, she volunteers to sit in an electric chair…one that’s above a water tank with a dead shark floating in it, just so they can move out of a room. Her strong will comes from her experience, but mostly from her daughters. She has two, and will do anything to see them again.
She can also seem manipulative and uncaring. While other contestants in the Nonary Game are locked in a freezer, she sits comfortably on a countertop, waiting for them to get out. Whenever there’s a choice to be made involving entering doors, Lotus is the first to bring up the idea of herself going through a door and leaving someone behind. While out searching for a missing member of their group, Lotus actually has the gall to calculate how she’ll get to the nine door to escape, with who, and then asks the protagonist and heroine if they’ll go with her. As she gets to know everyone, this side of her lessens, though it’s still there. She refuses at one point to leave the ship without bringing 7 along after they’ve made it to the near-end.
She’s also quick to anger, especially when you mention your age. As a woman who has some pride about her appearance, especially at the age of forty, she’s one to be treaded lightly around. Her bickering with fellow player 7 is especially fierce. In one ending, when she’s confronted with the mastermind behind the plot, she punches him square in the face. In another, if she’s left out with others to go into a room, she slaps the main character when he returns for even thinking about it. She won’t hesitate to yell, either.
Despite how proud she is, though, she’s not fearless. She’ll take a seat in a torture chair, yes, or run her hardest or try to solve a puzzle the fastest, but the entire time? Her pulse is racing. Her knees are shaking. When confronted with a gun, she clings behind a man almost half her age and digs her nails into him, completely petrified at having been used as a hostage. She, too, can’t handle the sight of the corpses they face, and feels vulnerable--and at times, pity for her fellow players--throughout the game.
Lotus can also be playful and insightful. There are several moments in the game where she takes a moment to wax philosophical or bring up random phenomenon, only to end the discussion saying she was teasing, not to take her seriously, or “Psyche!” Her playful side doesn’t come through often, considering the nature of the Nonary Game, but she won’t hesitate to make a playful jab at Junpei, comfort Clover, or bring up something random just because it comes to mind.
Limitations: Lotus has no supernatural abilities.

Log/Third Person Sample:
It was the worst feeling in the world, knowing that she came from one situation where she was trapped to another. Every day, Lotus looked down at the watch on her left wrist, remembering the Nonary Game. One moment she was there, on a ship, and the very next moment she was in a beach town with reruns of I Love Lucy and people that made her almost miss her fellow participants in the Nonary Game.
With an aggravated sigh, she shut off the TV and moved over to the window. She had just checked the weather channel, but she threw open the blinds and looked outside anyways. The landscape was still unfamiliar to her. All she wanted was to be back home, at least knowing that her daughters were safe. Instead…she was stuck in the remnants of a tourist trap.
That was enough moping. She shrugged on a jacked from her closet and started to leave, determined to actually mine out some information. She spent nine hours on that boat, and now she was stuck in some shitty town? She wasn’t going to stand for that. Making sure to turn off everything before leaving, she eventually moved out onto the street and started to look around, just trying to think of what she hadn’t done yet. It’s true that she had done so much already, at least as far as she could tell, but…once again, she told herself the same thing.
“Lotus, today is a day for answers.”
And with that, she moved towards the first person she saw, raising a hand in a half-hearted wave.
“Hey, you. Got a minute?”

Ugh, this place is a major pain. There’s nothing to do here, not even any hints on how to get out. I don’t know about you all, but I’ve got something I need to get home to.
Is anyone even listening? There’s got to be something more we can do, so…think about what hasn’t been done yet. Or are you all used to it here by now?
