To live a life dedicated to mastering the one thing, with the knowledge that only a human brain can achieve the absolute best, that when you are at the top, then that's it, no-one or no-thing has more answers than you do, even if you know that it's impossible to absolutely solve the game ever, and then...
suddenly it's no longer about exploring and stretching what is possible on the absolute scale, suddenly, it appears, that a machine will still have more and better answers than you do, no matter how hard you train, and what was once "discovering the terra incognito" has now been scaled down to a mere sport or hobby, not the frontier of solving the "puzzle" of the game ...
Not that it really matters that much, of course. I don't think any sprinters or marathon runners would ever think any less of their achievements just because any machine, or a horse, for that matter, could go faster and further :P
As for AIs, I'm not sure they would be all that interested in belly scratching in the first place, but, of course, one can never be sure.
I have never read the Hikaru no Go manga, but I have seen the anime, around the time it came out all the years ago. It WAS good! And that's what prompted me to learn the basics of go. Not that I have put in any time and effort towards developing any real skills, though.

Well and,
SEDOL LEE WON THE FOURTH MATCH! :)
I think you'd love it! The anime was good but I preferred the manga. I wanted to learn how to play Go after reading the manga, as you did haha. I turned out to be a real bad player. I still have a mini Go set somewhere in my room. Hmm...
