Neurology studies suggest that the best way to get better at something is to do that thing more. Cross-training is nice for keeping your body in balance, but it doesn't improve your skills.
Get more ice time and practice racing around. I'm sure that's not easy to find, but it's the best way to go.
As someone who is the tank in the back of every class, and who gets lapped by my younger classmates on a regular basis? Yeah, I relate.
However: that's his opinion. You're still fast.
Also: how many women your age do you meet at the rink? How many women in America do you know actually sign up to get their asses kicked on a regular basis for the dream of fast?
Anyway. These are the things I try to remember myself when I'm eating floor grime and doing burpees...
