Mmmm . . . . I'm enjoying Firefox 3. You should enjoy it as well, especially the Del.icio.us add-on; it is a huge improvement from the one for Firefox 2 (though having another bar is a little annoying). I also use Ref-Control and No-Script, which are very useful but not recommend if you need to see all the adds on the page or if you are not sure about which sources should be allowed (No-Script, that is).
The FDA is starting to take a stronger hand against phony cancer cures, according to Respectful Insolence. Time to pack up and move to elsewhere, quacks, I hope.

Need another reason to get registered to vote? Well, while here the only barrier for most adults is a long line (or maybe an old jail sentence, but even that barrier has come down in most states or can be challenged once the sentence is completed), people in Zimbabwe are dying for the right for a free and fair election. Some of them, having despaired of the situation in their home country, have fled to South Africa, where they have faced violent and deadly xenophobic riots.
A few years ago in Curacao, I saw an offshore oil rig chugging by (well, chugging along at 1 mph) while we were sailing for the day. I thought how odd and cool it was that such a large and un-ergonomic machine could even move. No one seem to mind its presence (maybe Venezuela has yet to have an oil-related disaster that has affected Curacao . . . who knows?). This led me to wonder why Americans are so steadfastly against off-shore drilling. Well, besides the Prince William Sound/Exxon disaster. The mentality seemed pretty deep-seated at that point.
My Baby Left Me, So I Got Me A New Baby: The U.S. Army must really miss the Air Force, which was originally a division of the Army back in WWII, because it (the Army) is forming its own air unit. Again.
Only For The Most Discriminated Smokers: In the Netherlands is about to start a ban on smoking tobacco cigarettes in public places on July 1. Fear not, for you, the public, will be allowed to smoke up pure marijuana joints in these same places. Is it just me, or is this liberal policy gone way too far?
Ah, Globalization! A Chinese company now owns Peru's 'copper mountain.' I guess the Chinese will soon duke it out with us for most polluted site in Peru, or maybe South America. Let the games begin!

Old Dog Remembers Old Trick: Scientists in Israel recently succeeded in growing a seedling from a date palm seed found at the Masada archeological site (~2000 years old). How did they do it?

Oh, and lastly, I found an epidemiology blog, Epi Wonk, and recommend it for better understanding the proper use of rigorous scientific language (that and Respectful Insolence) and the scientific method in peer-reviewed journals (as opposed to the abuse of quasi-scientific language to push forward alternative medicine without a robust basis in testing methods). Mostly, I just like people who fight the spin with a vengeance.
