MONSOOOON! MONSOON!!!!!
Well, last night, there was blue blue lightning and grey grey rain! RAIN!!!
All of the humidity seemed to collapse upon itself in a wet sigh and now the world which was once made of fire is of water. The same garbage that swirled around my feet in hot, dusty gusts of wind yesterday is now floating in a rather large puddle. I cant believe how the world transformed over a rainy night... rickshaws that once bumped me through potholes now drive through small lakes, creating giant waves on either side of us (so much fun, by the way) and the sky has gone from a source of unbearable heat and pain to a source of relief.... good bye, India summer. Hello, flood. Everyone has got their rain gear out. Usually women's sarees make the puplic a colourful place and now it's the shiney plastic of multi-coloured rain coats.
It hadn't let rain come for a solid 8 months and now it hasnt stoped for the last 24 hours. The electricity hasn't been stable (what else is new).
I remeber at the begining of the year, racing down five flights of stairs in my pajamas to be the lone person on the street, splashing in muddy rain water that came half way up to my knees and being pelted with water until I couldnt think straight... meenwhile the gate gaurds and elevator boys looked on, more than amuzed.
