(no subject)
1. People keep posting fics I want to read. Normally this would be beyond awesome but I have to get my tax amendment done, dammit.
2. I have to get two tax amendments done in fact, because the ^%#%$# Education Deprtment just wrote to me last week to inform me not only have they overpaid me about $1100 and want it back nownownow (note: I have not worked for them since last August! They're just realising this now?) but they also managed to do so over two previous tax years and now I have to do amendments with the tax office for those two returns. Assholes!
3. So much fail in the lunchroom chatter today. I am reminded why I prefer to surf the net during lunch rather than engage! A quick summary:
Re: Mel Gibson breaking his wife's teeth and saying "you deserved it"... various unflattering comments about her were made, including one guy commenting she probably did deserve it. He was joking, I think, but... dude. Not Funny.
One lady was talking about her ex-hubby remarrying a Philipino woman half his age. Not a problem in itself because that sort of thing happens (my Dad did this, too) and says more about the bloke involved than anything else. But the bit that made me do a double take was when she described the woman... "most of them are quite attractive but she was very dark."
WHAT. Seriously, did she actually say that? Ignoring the irritating generalisation that a whole country full of people are attractive by default, which isnot negative on its own, but when stated against the second part... well. And the homogenisation there is a little too close to "they all look the same" for my liking. But seriously, I thought we were past the Victorian idea that beauty equals pale skin (the racial connotations also speak for themselves and I can't think of words to express my rage at them so I won't try.)
