I'm excited about all the things I get to do today. Emphasize the 'get to do' part. I was faced with the fact that I have had so much free time in the past. Too much free time. So much free time that I think most of it might have been wasted. I've been learning to value my time and to use it wisely which include errands (things I have to do) and just stopping to smell the damn flowers. I started subbing this week for Central Unified. On Tuesday I substituted for a class of eeirely silent 7th graders. 5 classes of them! They were so great that the class taught itself. One student even told ME that she doesn't allow them to talk of turn. Turns out that the teacher rules with an iron fist. It was almost bizarre. Then yesterday, I met the kindergarteners. Adorable as all get out, but a tribe unto themselves. They are only there for 1/2 a day because thats all they AND the teacher can handle. They wouldn't stop telling on each other! We're going to have one of those in 5 years. What was really cool was to see how independant they already are. It's hard for me imagine that I will soon know someone that will be at that point one day. Anyway subbing is cool. The atmospehere alone makes me want to go for a credential. So between that and tending bar this week my free time has been limited. Still I have things I have to do, but at least today is mine.
