Well,
visiblemarket, I'm afraid I'm going to have to cheat on my unwritten advent calendar rules and start your offering today. I just wasn't expecting to come up with such an awesome and undoubtedly multi-chapter idea, and it was really kind of nuts to think I could write it all during the run-up to Christmas. But! In any case, the research is done, at least, notes written, Ghosts decided. It's gonna be great.
Anyway, I finally got my books on the shelf, so how about some new apartment pics?
The view from the front door. Off-camera on the left is a coat closet, a table, and more of the ninety-year-old furniture my mom gave me (stuff her father grew up with). You will see some of what is off-camera on the right in a moment.
The view from my couch. There's a tiny balcony off-camera to the right and a loveseat to the left. I've got all my DVDs and Discworld novels to our right of the TV, and about 70% of the rest of my books to our left (the rest are in my bedroom, since I intend to read them in the next year or so). I set them up alphabetically, and I kind of love the beginning of my C's:
If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor by Bruce Campbell
Napalm & Silly Putty by George Carlin
The Kill Bill Diary by David Carradine
And Another Thing... The World According to Jeremy Clarkson Vol. 2 by Jeremy Clarkson
What I wouldn't give to see all of those guys in a room together. Hee, I just noticed something else. Right after Jeremy's book is a second And Another Thing..., this one by Eoin Colfer (that's the sixth book in the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy). Man, I should've alphabetized years ago.
Kitchen, with the aforementioned exploding sun. I'm going to be making some scrambled eggs and tea in there shortly.
Bedroom. There's a couple of closets on the left and a window just barely containing the harmful supernova radiation on the right. Also on the right: an ottoman my mom talked me into (goes with the couch set), and the desk from my old room. Actually, the furniture arrangement in my new bedroom is pretty much identical to that at my mom's old house, only there's a door where the window used to be and there's not much of anything where the door used to be. Old habits die hard, I guess.
Also, something fun from
fannish5: Name five fictional families that you would like to spend time with.
1. The Serenitys, from Firefly. Well duh. Goes without saying.
2. The Illegal-Subletters, from The Middleman. Again, duh. You're pretty much guaranteed a good time with this crowd. Art Crawl!
3. The Pie-Holes, from Pushing Daisies. That's pretty much everything that's cool about them, plus pie. Hard to beat.
4. The Satellite-of-Loves, from MST3K. We could turn on one of those sappy Hallmark Channel movie marathons and go to town.
5. The Jeffersonians, from Bones. Good company all around, and most of these people are canonically rich, so, you know, extra good times.
Runners-up: The Scoobies from Buffy, the Veridians from Better Off Ted, the Walker-Parkman-Sureshes from Heroes, the Solomons from 3rd Rock from the Sun, the B.P.R.D.s from Hellboy.
So, Christmas. Got a couple more gift cards and a regular card to run out and grab before I head out to my dad's at 3:30 or so- I can probably get them from the grocery store, so I'm not in a big rush. Then tomorrow it's my mom's side of the family in the evening. Here's hoping that bad weather doesn't make things too difficult.
