as i told someone tonight, a growling stomach + aching foot do not a good night's sleep make. cheese proceeds pain pills, which proceed sleep. sleep is good, and a rare commodity. what am i talking about? i have a surplus of sleep these days, just not at the times when most normal people slumber.
this week i have had three physical therapy sessions and two sessions with a personal trainer. its not easy, but its worth it. at least that's what i keep telling myself. funny how i can tolerate the pain the therapist puts my foot through, but i just about loose it if he inadvertantly does something that tickles.
putting one foot in front of the other is not as easy as it sounds. i'm still looking forward to the day when i can walk and chew gum at the same time again. right now, i can't even walk to the store to buy the gum to chew while walking home.
the car rental company continues to play games. checked my bank balance and on the eighth of august they charged me $299, for what i'm assuming are late fees. which resulted in over $200 in overdraft charges. i'm not entirely sure how you can be charged late fees when the car is totalled, at the same time they are trying to make me pay the economic equivalent of a chevy impala. sigh. guess that's what the lawyer is for. have to say i'd rather pay him the $500 it takes to get the $500 back from the car company rather than pay them a single cent. just for the principle of the thing.
i have also spent some time online this week trying to find a physical therapist (sjukgymnast) for my return to stockholm. once again, my swedish vocabulary has expanded to areas i really wish it hadn't had to. Heel bone = hälben, and joint = led. i'm leaning towards going to a private therapist instead of trying to navigate the swedish medical system on crutches. its not like i need to see a GP to tell me i have a "bruten hälben" or anything. one look at my xrays and that should be perfectly clear.
and finally, i have been in touch with the swedish immigration authorities, Migrationsverket. seems there is a hold up with my residence permit as the proper form has not been filed by my employer. it would be rather ironic after this entire episode to get to Swedish customs and then be denied entry to the country. that would make my year.
tonight 'tis another twarted attempt at sleep.
recovery,
