Lynx pulled on her soft black leather gloves, and her father's brown leather jacket, before pulling the other strap of her little black bag onto her shoulder, taking one last look in the mirror to make sure everything was in place, before walking out of her bedroom, closing the door and running down the hallway. As she ran down the gray carpeted staircase she looked at the pictures in picture frames spread over the wall in their familiar collage, smiled sadly at the familiar faces, and ran across the tile floor of the entry way into her house, taking one last look at the pristine interior and closing the white door to the silent house. She locked the door to the two story hacienda style house. Tucked the key into her bra, and ran to the awaiting car.
" What took you so long, I've been waiting out here five minutes." her friend Sapphire joked, while looking over her shoulder and backing her beat up truck out of the long dark driveway to Lynx's house.
Lynx's family was basically middle class, but they had a very nice house, and enough money to comfortably feed Lynx, her mother, her father, and her two sisters Jalina, and Leyla, as well as give Lynx and her two sisters most of the things they wanted. Lynx from her point of view was spoiled, she'd admit, but she wasn't daddy's little princess or spoiled beyond compare. Her sisters as well as her parents were enough to keep her in line. But some things, like her love for speed and the night they couldn't keep her from. They had only some control over her, she listened to her family because they loved her, and she loved them, but if she wanted to do something else and believed it was right she would do it. Like tonight, her parents didn't want her to race, so she wasn't, she understood racing with the bikers at Hades Hollow was dangerous. There was lots of risk, and little rules to a race through Hades Hollow. All kinds of things were known to go on in the dark in the time it took a racer to complete their laps. But just because it was dangerous didn't mean she wasn't going, her parents had agreed somewhat reluctantly to let her go as long as she and a big group of friends went. She liked danger, but not that much danger, and her parents hadn't raised a fool, the bikers who raced at Hades Hollow, and The Grounds were way out of her league. She'd only learned how to ride a little, she didn't trust her skills enough yet, to risk death, or major injuries. Not like Angel, Sapphire, and Lucky. They were more than good in the racing department, they were some of the best she knew, other than her dad.Although he'd raced a lot in his time, Hades hollow, and The grounds were new raceways. When he'd asked her before he agreed about Hades hollow and The grounds, she'd said point blankly and honestly that the place was dangerous if you were on the track. At first he'd refused to let her go, but she'd gotten his and her mother's permission in the end, with the trump cards of a big group of friends, no racing at all, only watching, bringing her cell phone and an assurance that she wouldn't do anything stupid, and an added thing on her part, she'd brought along mace.
" Hey, Lynx are you staying at my house tonight, or do I bring you home?" Sapphire asked as she turned on the cars radio " Headstrong." with it's pounding beat echoed through the cab of the truck, and probably echoed through the cab window into the bed of the truck with it's safe hard connectable roof covering it.
" Uh no. My parents said I could, but sorry to say, I just would feel safer at home tonight. It's nothing against you, I think I'm just a homebody. I swear I'm homesick already. It's kind of pathetic." Lynx replied with a laugh, as she turned her neck to look into the back and checked to see if anyone else was back there yet.
" Where is everybody, I thought I was being picked up last." she asked curious, as she turned to look at Sapphire who's light blue eyes were fixed on the road.
" Angel and Lucky are at Angel's house waiting to be picked up, they're next, .....
Gemini and Cody are at Eugene's house, waiting for us loading up their bikes in Trek's truck and.......... Beau is waiting at Hades Hollow." Sapphire told her, pausing in between each piece of information as if trying to remember.
" God, I'm soo excited!!!" Lynx told her exhaling a long pent up breath, and grinning madly.
" Yeah it's a lot of fun, but don't wander off, be careful of the guys there, don't piss anybody off, stay with Beau and stay away from the tracks. Oh , and carry these.” She told Lynx, digging into the black duffel bag sitting on the seat between them, digging around, and taking out two objects and dropping them lightly on Lynx’s lap.
Before Lynx could say she didn’t need them, and that she didn’t need a babysitter, Sapphire spoke.
“ Those are a pair of brass knuckles. Put them in your jacket pocket in case you get into trouble, I hope you can punch.”
“ Aren’t I going to be with Beau though? I mean come on I thought if you were going to have him trail me all night he would at least be able to keep me out of trouble, and I wouldn’t need these.”
