Mod Post: New Warning System and Tags

Feb 27, 2012 19:47

Following concerns expressed by members about the social inequality of our current system, as well as the results of the poll HERE and the comments and PMs received concerning the issue, the following Warning Policy will now apply to lotseekerfic and its subcommunities, agadenreach, peoplespalace, and richard_kahlan. This policy is based on that of AO3. Authors not in compliance with the new policy will have to go through the moderation queue before having their posts appear on the community.

Please take a moment to read. The important parts are bolded.

THE WARNING SYSTEM
From February 27, 2012 forward, authors and artists are required to warn for graphic depictions of violence; rape/non-con/dub-con; underage characters involved in sexual relations; and major character death. OR you may choose not to use warnings. In that case, you must indicate that you choose not to use warnings. You may also choose to use one of the required warnings, but then use 'author chooses not to use warnings' to indicate another of those things is present, but you are not warning for it.

If none of the above warnings apply, you may either not use a warning field at all, or put "No Warnings Apply" or "None" or something similar.

You are allowed to use any additional warnings you feel are necessary, except for those listed below. Ex: Warning: BDSM, Knife Play, Historical Inaccuracy, Graphic Sex, Excessive Swearing, etc.

You are prohibited from warning for m/m slash, femslash, or het relationships / sexual relations. (Though a general warning for explicit sex that isn't specific to sexual orientation is fine. Ex: 'Warning, Graphic Sex' is fine. 'Warning, Het Sex' is not.) It has been pointed out to us that allowing these kinds of warnings sends the message that certain sexual orientations are the type of thing that need to be warned for, which can be offensive. Therefore, we no longer allow warnings for any kind of sexual orientation. If you want to ascertain what kind of fic it is, look at the pairings or use the tags to sort for the genre you're looking for.

The warning system is not retro-active: We understand some fics (including some by this moderator) that have been posted in the past are not in compliance with this warning system. You do not have to go back and change them, just comply from this point forward.

EXAMPLE USING ARCHIVE WARNINGS:
Title: Blood from a Stone
Author: pristineungift
Rating: T
Warnings: Graphic Fantasy Violence; Minor Character Death; Temporary Major Character Death.
Pairings: Darken/Cara, Darken/OC, Richard/Kahlan, Zedd/OC.
Summary: Darken Rahl was never meant to be born, yet his spirit has entered the world of the living no less than four times. Now the Creator seeks to right what is wrong.

EXAMPLE CHOOSING NOT TO WARN:
Title: Blood from a Stone
Author: pristineungift
Rating: T
Warnings: Author Chooses Not to Use Warnings.
Pairings: Darken/Cara, Darken/OC, Richard/Kahlan, Zedd/OC.
Summary: Darken Rahl was never meant to be born, yet his spirit has entered the world of the living no less than four times. Now the Creator seeks to right what is wrong.

EXAMPLE USING ONE WARNING AND CHOOSING NOT TO WARN:
Title: Blood from a Stone
Author: pristineungift
Rating: T
Warnings: Graphic Fantasy Violence; Author Chooses Not to Use All Applicable Warnings.
Pairings: Darken/Cara, Darken/OC, Richard/Kahlan, Zedd/OC.
Summary: Darken Rahl was never meant to be born, yet his spirit has entered the world of the living no less than four times. Now the Creator seeks to right what is wrong.

THE NEW TAGS
In order to facilitate people finding the genres they want to read without sending the message that certain sexual orientations are wrong or icky, etc, we will be adding a het tag and a threesome/moresome tag to all the communities except richard_kahlan, where it wouldn't apply since that's a one pairing comm.

All fics that feature relationships must now use the appropriate tag, whether it be slash, femslash, het, or threesome/moresome. Please also remember to request a tag for your specific pairing if one doesn't already exist.

A NOTE FROM YOUR MODERATOR
We ask that you please go back and retag all of your old fics with the appropriate tags. There are simply too many across all the communities for me to do them all, especially as I am still in the process of retagging all the old entries in legendofseekerand richard_kahlan. If you do not retag your old posts with the new het and threesome/moresome tags, they are likely to remain untagged for the foreseeable future, and thus will not show up for people who are using those tags to search for fic and art. I am sure I will go back and do it at some point, but it will not be any time soon, so in the meantime if you want your fics included in the tags, you need to do it please.

Please comment on this post once you have tagged your old fic, so I know I don't need to do yours.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help tag old entries, PM me and we will discuss being granted temporary mod access to do so.

Comment here if you have any questions. Comments are screened, so don't be shy.
