She was accustomed to the cold. How could she not be after so many years living in this frozen kingdom? Plunging her arms in to the river up to her elbows, and feeling the current sweeping off the remnants of dirt, blood, and some brain matter, she scooped palmfuls of it, and splashed it against her face. She could tell she was a site; filthy and warn. Again, as expected. One did not partake in battle without a toll on their appearance.
A faint chuckle could be heard beside her. Internally Cara growled as she rubbed another handful of water against her face.
Looking up at Kahlan she blinked, feeling the water freezing on her eyelashes.
"And what, pray tell, is so funny?"
"Your cheeks are pink. You look adorable."
Cara huffed as she stood, and then walked past Kahlan, bumping her shoulder into the brunette. "I am incapable of being adorable."
"Oh I beg to differ."
"Begging. I will make sure you are doing much of that later."
"Promises promises." Kahlan sang back to her. With her back to the Confessor, Cara smiled.

Being back in this city, after a century, it felt like it did before. But it was lacking. Now the night was filled with bazaars, the scent of street food And the receding tide of the bay. Nicci had left, Cara assumed to sleep. Cara didn't need or want sleep.
She walked.
Every so often she'd see someone out of the corner of her eye, her heart would sour but turning she'd realize either no one was there or just a faded copy.
This happened to often.
She thought she saw Kahlan, PLOTNAMEWHICHIWILLNOTTELLYOU, and many others. Those she wished to see, but never would again.
Climbing the stairs she went out over the plan to the alter, it was crumbling from the winds the rains the years. Kahlan’s body was enclosed now in glass, to prevent vandalizing. The right hand had been taken two hundred years before.
Cara was still angry.
She sat against the stone, head leaning back and looking at the night sky. Full of stars, twinkling. The brightest star, a vibrant blue was where she focused her attention.
"What do you make of Nicci?” She asked and silence came
You think I am being petty, Cara said internally, as she pulled off her soft grey leather gloves, and then looked at her palms awash in the blue moonlight. Even with you so far away I can feel your disapproval. Cara raised her eyes up, beyond the moonlight, and fixated her eyes on the bright blue star in the very center of the sky. Clouds that had been moving to block the stars seemed to pull thinner and did not get in the way. It was as if Cara could feel the faint brush of fingertips against the hair at her temple.
"I'm what I am." She said softly, with a faint chuckle. "No changing that now."
How many times had she come to this place, to sit and look up at Kahlan, bright and twinkling above. How many moments lost in the revere of memories, or of talking to herself like an insane woman?
Nicci wants answers I am incapable of giving, Cara stretched her fingers before setting them on the leather over her knees and rubbing, pulling her legs close to her chest. She set her chin down, and let her loose braid fall over her shoulder. "Why did you have to lie to me?" Cara asked. "Why did I never forgive you?"
