Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction, written purely for entertainment purposes.
Summary: Sean shares a special moment with his youngest child.
Author's Notes: This is a short piece I wrote to commemorate Memorial Day. I hope you enjoy it.

The little girl reaches out tentatively with one hand to touch the polished surface of the huge wall in front of her. It's cool to the touch, and her fingers idly trace the markings carved into it. There are lots of them, stretching from one end of the wall to the other.

She isn't alone. As she looks around at all the other people standing here, she wonders why some of them are crying. Why are they so sad? She looks up at her father, who is holding onto her other hand with one of his own. His free hand reaches out to touch the stone surface, brushing his fingertips over a name etched there. He doesn't know this person, but he knows what they - and the others whose names are forever engraved here - have done.

Sean bends down to place a gentle kiss on Isabella's smooth forehead, then looks back up at the stone wall filled with names. She hears him whisper two words:

"Thank you."
