SPN Shenanigans and Such

Unsurprisingly, I didn't make the deadline for my DWB fic, BECAUSE I CAN'T FOCUS OR WRITE QUICKLY TO SAVE MY LIFE. *Ahem* That being said, loverstar, my winner, has been gracious enough to grant me time, and I'm still plugging away at it and hope to have it done within the week or so.

I'm actually excited about the SPN renewal because while I'm enjoying ( Read more... )

muses_circle just put up a post that reflects how I feel about THAT development. Blech.

Where did she post it? Open_road? I was going to go reply over there but it was deleted. But, I was going to say that I definitely get the lack of enthusiasm. Some of Gamble's tendencies are highly annoying, and I will hold the epic failure of IKWYDLS over her for a good, long time. But in comparison to others: *cough*Kripke, Edlund*cough* Her eps feel closer to old SPN to me.

But, my expectations are lowered and I'm just looking for any kind of silver lining I can find that'll let me enjoy the show again.

She put it in her own LJ.

I can't muster up much excitement because Gamble's been said to have been the one responsible for the more religious shift in the show's mytharc. Based on what I've seen with the writers' involvement (who's giving interviews and on what) the past two years, I'm of the opinion she's been in charge of the show anyway. This is just making it official official.

I can't find it for some reason, but it could be me being slow. : /

Ah, I didn't know that about Gamble, although I did notice she's been as vocal as Kripke for a long time. I suppose a lot of how this will turn out depends on the degree they disconnect from the apoca-arc. If all the destiny/war on earth/etc. stuff is finished, I imagine it will be harder to work in the religious bent in general. Hopefully anyway.

The ratio of Gamble (and Edlund) interviews to Kripke ones in the last two years have been slanted in her direction. Esp. ones which have to do with the meat of what's being planned for the series. In earlier seasons, Kripke was on the front lines in interviews with that kind of information. It's like his hand hasn't been "visible" for me on the show since the start of season four. As I mentioned somewhere else, "Heaven and Hell" was so fucking horrible, I'm now convinced he was taking the piss out of the whole angel/heaven/hell storyline with it. Grace in a tree and the utter lameness of the entire resolution ( ... )

Oh, I very much agree about Kripke phoning it in. But I suppose for me, it's that everything still has to go through him, and even if he'd been withdrawing from the show, he shares equal blame in rubberstamping the crap that's been trotted out. And from his accounts, at least the idea of introducing angels was his, and he sees no issues with how they were integrated in relation to S1-3.

Beyond just Heaven and Hell, there was also Lucifer Rising and Sympathy for the Devil, which in my mind were almost equally bile-inducing. I know those could be more example of him just going along with what's been laid out by others, but I would hope that when he has to actually come in and write, that would be the time he would've been WTF over what he's seeing.

Eh, but maybe the horridness of his mytharc eps IS him not GAF or taking it seriously, you could be right.

What you described is what I feel is most likely to transpire. A S6 with Castiel and set against the fall-out of the apocalypse. I'm just waiting to see, because the possibility of ( ... )

The best comparison I've seen is what Marti Noxon did to BTVS when Joss Whedon turned most of his attention to ATS for a while. Which is what it seems like what happened with SPN and Gamble/Edlund. It's also possible for Kripke to still be a producer and not be consulted on EVERY decision or idea for how something implemented. For the first few eps of Dollhouse, Whedon had two showrunners taking ideas and making them happen. He didn't have any say on what they did beyond handing over his notes, as he'd trusted them to do it right. As crappy as those eps were, yeah, you can see how successful that was ( ... )
