I'll admit my jaw dropped when I saw you wrote my fic. Knew it would be good because anything you write with Hal is good.I wasn't disappointed (he's gorgeous here). What a lovely story. Elrond, Erestor and Celebrian waiting for the twins and the tension that lay there - I felt it. And I laughed aloud at Haldir's post script.

I love Haldir's left-handedness, the way Erestor completely stuck his foot in his mouth about it, and his start as a courier - perfect for a long distance friendship. The gift parcels speaking of far away places, the way Hal's work became more and more dangerous as he rose in Celeborn's estimation...too many touches to list here. I like Erestor's warrior past, his efficiency and value to Elrond and his family, and the way he took care of Haldir when he needed it.

Thank you very much for this gift.

Glad you enjoyed it. I like to imagine that the inn in Alqualondë where he stayed was the same one Oshun created in "Will Overruled by Fate." Also kind of a nice change to write an older, calmer, more resigned Haldir. But he's a smartass at any age.

There is a very strong sense of the length of the life of elves here and in ways that can be
tortuous, filled with regrets - not at a level that would threaten their very lives, but enough to
colour their days - and the way that these two find that this is truly a new beginning is in
good part because their former lives - as trusted servants to their lordly masters in troubled times - are over
too, so that they will have a new freedom and what they choose to do with it will begin to
heal old wounds. A lovely gift and thanks for sharing.

Thank you... I think that's always the biggest challenge with writing Elves... a life that long is just so hard to comprehend! In this story, I imagined Erestor as being very much a creature of habit, and probably quite relieved that his life in Aman has retained much of the rhythm with which he is familiar. But Haldir here is a different beast-- I'm sure that he feels relief that he is now free to seek out a new life, but he's also probably feeling a bit lost. Fortunately, life management is Erestor's forte! ;)

I knew this would be good, because it was your writing. I loved the pairing, but OMG - the patience of the elves (and their stubbornness). In some ways it is a wonder that these two finally got together at all. But you pulled it off, and they were and will be a delight. So very well done!
