Haven

The dark-haired elf walked silently across the gardens, his footfalls quieter than a cat’s as he headed for the pond. He let his robes drop to the ground and slowly let himself slide down into the clear water. He immersed himself completely and resurfaced, smoothing his long, sparkling hair towards his back so it would dry away from his face.

The lazy soak helped soothe the warrior’s troubled mind. As a shadow warrior, he had duties that sometimes disagreed with his moral code, but loyalty was his chief virtue so he could not allow himself to disappoint. Thus it was that even the missions he dreaded to carry out ended in success.

He had to keep his special assignments a secret and he had been asked to not even share the truth about them with his own brother. Despite his innocence and good faith, Elrohir was scarily perceptive, and even more so when it came to his twin.

Had anyone happened upon him, they would have definitely thought the son of Elrond is enjoying an afternoon of uninterrupted idleness, in the comfort of his father’s well-protected domain, away from the roar of the battle. Because Elladan’s face never reflects the turmoil his heart or mind might be in, and his handsome features never gather in a frown or a grimace. His chiseled jaw never clenches in anger or frustration. Only those who are really close to the oldest of the twins know him well enough to tell that Elladan is a controlled, calm warrior type who resorts to other means of soothing and releasing his emotions.

In fact, Elladan is one of the most loaded with duties among all of the fighting elves. His father has pleaded with him to stay away from the war, with the love of a parent who knows that arrows and heavy blades have complete disregard for the immortality and long lives of the Firstborn. Yet, Yet, Elrond’s beautiful child is also a stubborn one, and one who sees his path clearly before him.

And so, Elladan grew up training with the best warriors in all elvendom and soon bested all his masters. He is one of the reasons why men and orcs fear the magic of elves. Like an unseen predator, he is only felt when it is too late for his target. But being the one who ends so many lives in just the fraction of a heartbeat can be quite heavy on one’s soul, and more than training to keep his stealth and speed, Elladan must above all train his mind and heart to remain in balance.

The ancient scrolls warn that for each assassin, the way to achieve peace is different and personal, and many find replacement ways that do not last and fail them when they most need peace of mind and concentration.

However, Elladan has found his balance, in his humble gratitude for all those in his life who share with him their love and time; in his childlike wonder before all creation and in his generous love for his mate.

They have known each other since they were elflings, chasing butterflies together, barefoot in the tall grass. Elrond has always known they were meant for each other, the dark haired Imladris warrior and the golden haired Mirkwood prince.

King Thranduil has objected furiously to the union - to the Silvan king, it was enough of a blow to see his youngest child become a warrior and place himself in harm’s way. Now that Legolas is bound to an assassin, not only does he risk losing his life in battle, but also fading from grief if Elladan should fall.

They have not always been together, in fact the realities of war and their missions keep them apart most of the time, but they are both very patient elves and they have both managed to accept what is.

Elves are loyal and faithful by nature and they choose mates for life, but they usually are as dependant on their mates as any other race. For Elladan and Legolas, even throughout their youth years, it has been blissfully simple to be independent and go without seeing the other for long periods of time. They share a connection which alerts them if the other is in peril, and it is even stronger than the bond Elladan has with his twin.

Dark times have come upon Arda, but the Valar have not abandoned it to its doom, placing among the brave souls caught in the war, singular beings with skill above natural abilities in combat and swift killing. The contrasting love pair are such examples of fine battle skill and bravery among the immortals still walking Middle-Earth.

Separately, they are both deadly, and together they are a formidable force. But for now, they are only a couple of lovers, as Legolas approaches carefully, not meaning to upset his mate from meditation. Elladan opens his eyes lazily and lets out a sound resembling a purr as he sees his golden-haired lover approach. They have been apart for years and much has happened since they have held each other.

He moves aside in a silent invitation for the elf prince to join him, which Legolas does without delay, after having removed his clothes.

Anor stops her chariot in the skies, or so it seems, to observe the peaceful moment when the two kiss, arms slithering around bodies and tangling in close embraces. For time is precious and they have but their bodies to try and capture this fleeting moment with.

They whisper sometimes, but seldom, for their bond allows them silent understanding and communication, and there is no time to spare for talks and explanations. Tomorrow, a swift end might come, and neither elf would risk leaving this world without professing his love to his mate.

For now, though, they have each other and they have this surreally beautiful and serene afternoon all to themselves so they can indulge in being carefree lovers, be it only for a moment’s time.
