Good! I'm so glad you liked it. I knew from your journal that you'd be away for a bit over the holidays, so I wasn't expecting any comment soon, but I'm glad you've come to it eventually and that it spoke to you. And I must thank you for the prompt and the pairing. At first it was a pretty scary assignment. This is the second challenge-type fic I've done and I'm still a bit phased by writing to someone else's prompts.

Ecthelion telling Thorongil about the Palantir was a key moment for me in their exchange as we realise that he has told Gil, but not his son. Why? Is it because he 'knows' who the young ranger is? (Did the Stewards of Gondor really lose track of Arathorn's son? Somehow I doubt it.) I wanted to set up possibilities too, for example, why did Denethor come to distrust Mithrandir? And how would he react to Thorongil's return, because it seems clear that Thorongil returned to Minas Tirith more than once?

There's a piece of fanart on tenebris.org at

It's the only image of Denethor and Thorongil I've found and I liked the way that Gil's face is mostly hidden, whilst Denethor looks out boldly. They're an intriguing combination, so thankyou for choosing them.
Happy New Year.
