The Answer

She should have remembered how his skin once felt beneath her hands: warm and solid as he was wont to tighten up the moment she distracted him from a piece he worked on.

It had been too lonely for her: the waiting and not knowing if any of her children would return to her. Now after being reunited with nearly all of her children, she betimes allowed herself to remember what once was.

During those moments she imagined herself to be their moral compass as they grew so tall, soon finding herself wondering where she had failed when she tried not to think of all what they had done without her.
Of course she had learnt of their actions and fates, all except for one.

The one who remained behind.

Why had he not heeded the call to return home? Even her audacious and outspoken heeded the call, followed by her son who was so much alike her spouse. Eventually her eldest sought her out with so much sorrow in his eyes, encouraged by the twins and her rebellious dark son.

Not the singer.

Not the warrior bard.

It was as if she still felt amputated despite having being reunited with the other. Often she would imagine how he would wander upon those foreign shores: searching for what he had cast away, trying to keep the dark destiny at bay. It seemed to her a folly, yet she respected him for it. If he only could surrender. If only…
The rumours were there of course: that he had succeeded to find her lost son. The moment the boat docked Tol Eressa had bloomed and word had spread. To believe that the moment had come? Could she cling onto hope, if not for the needed reprieve?

Sighing deeply, she rose to her feet. Her eyes found the harp in the corner: could it still sing with him?

‘My lady,’ her seneschal interrupted her thoughts. ‘Erestor is here to see you.’

The answer had arrived.
