I've always liked how Eowyn, with everything else going on in her head, so spontaneously shows sympathy and compassion for Merry.

Oh, indeed she'd not allow herself to be left behind once more, and would feel such sympathy with another also ordered to stay back as well. And love the idea she's been gathering her own armor for some time!
