Quietly

Quietly

All his life he’d heard it.

Inside he’d heard it.
Play quietly, Pippin.
Speak quietly, Pippin.

Outside he’d heard it.
Move quietly, Pippin.
Hobbit quietly, Pippin.

Quietly

On this journey he’d heard it.

Quietly, Pippin -
There’s a Black Rider near.

Quietly, Pippin -
There’s a flock of evil birds.

Quietly, Pippin -
There’s
Something in the water,
Goblins nearby
Elven guards
Orcs

Quietly, Pippin -
I told myself when the Orcs
Had Me and Merry.
(but quietly was better than screaming)

Quietly, Pippin -
While in Lord Denethor’s presence
While he wasted away before my eyes

But not quietly
When he set out to destroy
Himself and his son.

No.

I did not go quietly then.

Quiet here, though -
Where sound comes not
Where light comes not
Where breath comes not

Where I will die -

Quietly.
