“So you do not deny beating your wife and your children?” Aragorn demanded of the prisoner.

“No, they began to eat before I had my fill,” the man replied. “They deserved all they got!”

“Then you must pay the price!” Aragorn was unable to conceal his anger. “You will be flogged then exiled from the City forever. Take him away!”

The King sighed as he doffed his heavy ceremonial robes. Such crimes sickened him. He instructed an official to see that the miscreant’s wife and children were provided for then made his way home to where Arwen and his children awaited him.

His eyes lit up at Arwen’s welcoming smile and the sight of Eldarion and Farawyn running towards him to be hugged.

“It is good to see you,” he said, smiling at his family, no longer the angry judge but the loving and amicable husband and father once more.
