I just watched War Horse for the first time and I want to expound on it. For a bit of background, while WWI is not my area of expertise, I am a history major. History of all sorts gives me all the feels. And I am a fourth year pre-vet student. I love animals a crazy amount and I want to devote the rest of my life to their care. So, as you can imagine, War Horse is the perfect combination of feels. Plus Hiddles and Benedict Cumberbatch. Can't forget them, of course.
But the thing is? As much as it's a movie that makes you sad and want to scream, it's also a movie about human decency. It's about Albie believing in Joey, it's about Captain Nicholls doing what he can, it's about Gunther and the others in the militaries trying to do what they can to save a horse. Emilie trying to save them. Her grandfather buying Joey out of love for her, and giving him to Albie.
So yeah, good uplifting movie. It made me appreciate people, and I was crying for half of it.
