Chapter 1 out of ?
Eliot froze when he saw the bullet hit Parker’s body. The taser hadn’t gone off, and Parker had been shot. He didn’t even remember what happened next. He killed both officers then and there, but he didn’t know how. All he knew was that Parker had been shot, and there was hell to pay. He fell onto his knees by the little thief’s body, and realized she was breathing. She had a pulse, though it was weak. She was lucky that the moronic cop couldn’t aim. He had hit her about 6 inches below her heart.
“All right, darlin’ stay with me. You’re okay.”
Parker whimpered a little when he picked her up, and buried her face in his chest. She looked so weak now. Eliot had always thought of her as invincible, above all reasonable human limits. Now he saw how vulnerable she was, and no one was ever going to hurt her again. Not while Eliot Spencer was still alive. Eliot got her to a hospital, giving her the name Beth Spencer, and claiming to be her husband. He had to make sure he could see her whenever he wanted to. The only way to guarantee that was being her husband. He called Sophie immediately, and she got the others to come to the hospital right away. The doctor came out of the operating room as Eliot was telling them what happened.
“Mr. Spencer?” said Dr. Logan.
“Yeah.”
“The surgery went well, and your wife is in recovery, but her condition is still critical. You may see her,” he then looked at the others, “but we prefer you go alone.” Eliot did not object. The nurse led him to Parker’s room. He didn’t say a word to the team, but left them a little confused, and rather stunned. Sophie was the only one of the three who didn’t seem surprised at Eliot’s behavior. Doctors are obligated to report all shootings, but when the cops arrived, Hardison had that problem covered. Eliot would never again make fun of him for carrying that badge around.
“Hey, Parker…” said Eliot, sitting in a chair beside her bed. She was still unconscious. Eliot took her hand in his, and couldn’t help but kiss it. Now that he looked back, his own reaction to all of this surprised him. He had known he didn’t dislike Parker anymore, though he tried to maintain his tough-guy image. He had no idea until now that he felt any emotion this strong for Parker.
“You’re going to be okay, Parker. We need…I need you to be okay.”
