Blowing the same three notes over and over again is not a score

I saw Shutter Island last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit, despite the score attempting to bludgeon me to death. The music was really more suited to an old time overly dramatic monster movie. In places, it sounded a lot like the soundtrack to Bram Stoker's Dracula (the Coppola film). Only I think the Dracula soundtrack was more subtle. The Shutter Island soundtrack was as subtle as Gary Oldman's white wig in Dracula. I will say that the twist was still pretty good although it was not a new idea. The final twist was a little more unexpected. I definitely want to read the book now. And I'd recommend the film, as long as you are prepared for the score to try its best to ruin the mood set by the rest of the movie.

I am drowning in Girl Scout cookie boxes. I think I mentioned before that I was crazy enough to take on the job of cookie mom for my daughter's troop. I'm probably more stressed than I need to be about it, but there are also lots of things to be stressed about lately so it's also possible I'm just attributing all of my stress to being cookie mom. Suffice to say I am in a state of waiting and not knowing. Like, I know my employer will be doing layoffs in the next few months. They haven't announced it, but everyone knows they are coming. I feel somewhat safe, but really does anyone ever feel totally safe from layoffs? Not until they are over anyway.

So for my daughter's birthday, I'm buying us both Disneyland annual passes with part of our tax refund. I'm actually going to surprise her and take her to Disneyland on her birthday to buy the passes. Cookie season will be over by then and we'll both be starting our weeklong vacation...during which we'll be able to go to Disneyland every single day if we want to. :-)
