School Of Rock Fest/roadtrip this past wekend
friday we got to jersey at about 4.hopped on the tram and went to NYC.first time there.wanted to catch a few shows.one was soldout.one was farther away than where we were.so we wandered for a few hours.saw times square.then rockefeller plaza.saw the nintendo store.store was awesome but didnt have nearly as much stuff as i expected.went back to jersey and made the hour drive to where we needed to be.got a hotel and slept.
satuday we woke up early.went to red bank.you know.where kevin smith is from.the guy behind clerks/mallrats/chasing amy/dogma/jay and silent.went to his comic book store.place was really awesome.i didnt get anything because i was afraid i'd spend more money than i had to spend.went to the fest next.the school of rock is a school where you can snd your kids to learn to play music.they had all their schools repped from all over the US.they all did cover sets.the portland band did a 90's set.they were pretty freakin awesome.did weezer,nirvana,alice in chains,rage and so on.the weakerthans were awesome.played a bunch of new songs which were really good.watched the ergs for the second time in a week.seriously the best band in punk rock right now.only about 10 people watched them.but they still ruled.after that we went to the outlet mall.i got a new pair of shoes.then we got lost looking for a hotel.found a place at 3am.
sunday we woke up.went to the fest.watched jello biafra do a spoken word thing.guys an awesome showman.went to the beach.walked in the ocean.it felt really refreshing.i wish i could have played in it longer but i wanted to see lucero.so i went and watched them.they put on a really solid set.bouncing souls were next.as usual they rocked.totally awesome set.great seeing them in their home state too.next was the school of rock all stars.they opened with a metallica song.played some other covers.then out of nowhere they did angel of death/raining blood from slayer.then they made the announcement of having a special guest(the first of two).out comes Jello Biafra.they did California Uber Alles and Bleed For Me.holy shit.seeing jello sing dead kennedys songs with a bunch of kids under 16 was unreal.he left the stage and they played somemore songs.then came guest 2.vernon reid from living colour.they did a blues song and followed up with Cult of Personality.so awesome.i coulda left after that but noooo...the bad brains were still to come.man...I Against I,Regulator,Sailin On and Right Brigade to start their set.kids going insane.they played the rest of the hits in the following hour.but those 4 songs to start was a dream come true.
all in all this weekend pretty much ruled.
