Retail review

Now might be a good time to review the multitude of retail options in Elwood. Letsee... there's the BP gas station with it's convenience store offerings, Watson's pub, Raceway pizza, a salon, an ice cream shop, and... that's it for downtown! There's another bar/grill up the street as well as a mobile phone place and a craft store. Oh, there's also three garages! There's two churches (Elwood Community and a Lutheran), a post office, a police station, a village hall (actually a house), and a telephone switching station. Of course there's the enormous industrial park on the old arsenal, but it's not like you're going to walk up to any of those places and belly up to the counter... No post office *oops! meant to say video rental* (nearest one is in Manhattan) and no grocery (ditto). No VFW. No pharmacy (Have to go to Joliet for those). No banks, but a dog grooming business! Considering Orland Park has at least one of every business imaginable, it's going to be quite an adjustment. At least we can get anywhere in Joliet in 15-20 minutes, so I won't be completely shell-shocked. Btw, state route 53, which runs about a mile from our house, runs over a portion of historic route 66! So I can get my kicks every day on route 66. Thrilling, isn't it?
