Ok, I don't make special book review posts very often, but I finished a book a few weeks ago that was just really fantastic and not something you would necessarily pick up for yourself so I thought I'd do a very small promotion for it.
The book in question is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
This book is truly unique and probably made me feel more affection for a set of characters than any other book in recent memory.
Even though this was sold/marketed as a "young adult book" there's nothing about it that makes it less interesting for adults. The writing style is rich and vivid.
This book made me actually cry, which is pretty rare when it comes to books. I wouldn't say I came away with an feeling of sadness after I finished it, just a better appreciation of life.
If you want to go read a bunch more praise check out the Amazon reviews for it, but I would recommend not reading the plot in advance and just letting yourself find out the story yourself.
It's available in paperback now, but if you are going to buy it, buy the hardcover (used if you must), because you are probably going to want to give it to someone else.
Or a great gift for a young person in your life (it's recommended 9th grade +), but only one with a high level of reading comprehension who would appreciate a story set in Nazi Germany.
(I know it, I can't but help be a book pusher on my journal, either)
