So, I am watching a television program on PBS about advertising. It is making me realize just how much more capitalistic America is getting. It makes me sick how each corporation wants to be the very best and wants pry itself into our heads and make us believe that we really have an need and an emotional attachment not only to this product but this brand. There's a new subsidiary of Delta called song that is especially creepy; they actually believe that (or want people to believe) they are culture, rather than just an airline. Uck, listening to these advertisment companies makes me sick. And celebrities are 100% behind this corporate drive. It seems so demeaning to me to try to consider yourself an artist on one hand, and on the other hand, sell out to any company (no matter how unrelated or unimportant it is to you) that has the best money and even go so far as to use their advertising to promote yourself (i.e.: releasing a song for the first time in a car ad). I don't see what is wrong with not being the very best and most popular company in your trade. I'm pretty sure that even if your company is only worth 4 million dollars (or whatever the average is for what you do) you could really consider yourself as doing pretty damned well. Capitalism is so stupid.
...yay for the shallowing of America
