*rant on*
I have to say, that it pisses me off, and surprises me on some level, that programmers have a disregard to basic math concepts. Perhaps it's been my time working on the business side of things, but I take great pride in getting calculations correct, and accurate! To the penny, if I can. Who cares if we report out in millions.
Anyone who has taken math should know that 86.789 rounds up to 86.8. But for some reason our programmers love to just truncate. I'm not sure if this is because they are lazy or what. It pisses me off. Because over a number of records, like in the tens of thousands, this amounts to a lot! Especially when you are calculating percents.
Ok, so I'm a math geek. But I take pride in my work and it's accuracy. If I'm going to do something that people are going to rely on, I need them to be able to count on its accuracy, and always see that it matches the expected values.
People just don't get it. Am I too picky?
