Just another reason to hate moving...

Jul 01, 2009 19:42

I hate moving. It's tedious and often painful work. It seems to go on forever. And I've done too much of it in the last two years.

But what is almost worse is the whole changing addresses with everyone, and moving your services. Every time I move, there seems to be something the big over grown companies fuck up. No, they don't screw it up, they FUCK it UP.

And you know what? They don't even care! That's right. To them, you and I are just little guys. They woo the masses with all sorts of hype and marketing, then they screw us over one by one, in small enough numbers that it doesn't show on the bottom line.

And what's worse, is they are ALL like that. And any company that is worth their salt gets squashed by the big guys. OR, they are only resellers anyways.

They are as bad as governments.

I read recently about how farming coops were created as part of a step to help the people fight/compete with the big corporations. But no matter what happened, the government sided with the corporations. So much for government for the people, by the people.

We really do need a major change to the way things are done. Not just in Canada and the U.S., but everywhere. The internet is a great example. It's not owned by any one or two organizations, but it's a network built over years by everyone. We need more of our infrastructure to be like that.

Instead we have companies like Bell, AT&T, and many, many others, who continue to hike prices to line their own pocketbooks. In a time when the big phone companies were told they have too much of a monopoly, we have cable companies who are the ONLY option for cable. It just doesn't make sense.

Our power companies continue to raise rates. Then they ask for deposits because our bills get so high we can't pay. And because of their deposits we go broke.

I'm tired of corporate America and corporate Canada running our lives. But I haven't a clue how to change that, any more than the rest of society.

Perhaps it is time for civilization to crumble and start over.

So, here I am, sitting at work on a Canadian holiday (Happy Birthday to Canada, 142 years old today) all because I don't have internet at either my old apartment OR my new one. AND the new place is filthy so guess what I get to do tonight? CLEAN! Can't people clean their own mess when they move out? Yet another example of the me, me, me mentality these days.

Btw, in case you haven't noticed, I'm pissed.
