I've been trying to leave my reply for this for three days now (*shakes fist at family*), but I'm here now and I have to say: YOU ARE AMAZING AND THIS IS THE LOST FIC OF MY DREAMS. The way you structured the story like an episode with on/off-island action was brilliant and the dueling trips worked together beautifully with the quiet angst of Hurley and Sayid's road trip (!!!) to Vegas juxtaposing against the happy camping trip with Shannon and Charlie. It created this wonderful, bittersweet feeling that just blew me away ( ... )

Yay! So glad you liked this. I was so nervous that you really wanted one of the ships, but I saw that you listed Hurley and Sayid as characters and I was really in the mood to write something about Carmen and Sayid interacting, and this just fell out from that. The first two episodes of S5 were so good that it made me want an entire season of Hurley & Sayid funtimes. Because my two favorite lines from the ENTIRE SERIES are "Why is there a dead Pakistani on my couch?" and "If you ate more comfort food maybe you wouldn't have to go around shooting people." Hence the Combos. I love them the most. And your "two characters have a history we don't know about" led to the Shannon/Charlie, who had a really fun dynamic that I wanted a lot more of. But then again, I want more Shannon/everyone.

I feel like even though they switched powers, maybe Nathan's dead-seeing thing might have stayed? Like, it's tied to the fact that he HAS died, and is not necessarily only possible when he's immortal?

Thank you for leaving such wonderful prompts!
