ETA: I've got the input to go ahead, so the poll is closed. Thanks for voting!

Sign ups for the Lost Secret Santa Fic Exchange will begin later today, but in the meantime, we need to decide on a name and a couple of other things.

As long as we promote this on comms with year round traffic, I think we can use the old site; however, I am not opposed to doing this on squee. The name solstice is more inclusive, and does not necessarily preclude using the sweet image of Sawyer in a Santa hat! Since it can get so busy in December, I think January 1 makes more sense as a deadline. Maybe the fic gifts can be given between the 21st and 1st. That gives writers a wide range and helps spread the fic around for readers.

Yay! I'm so excited!

I agree that using solstice is more inclusive, but the vote seems to be for hohoho. Hopefully, non-Christians won't have a problem with it. I mean, I don't, but then I don't have a competing religious belief.

For me it's fine either place you host it as long as I knew it if it wasn't placed here, since I'm not a member at the other community. For the deadline, I'd say either the 21st or the 1st since the days just before Christmas are usually busier. And I'd give the week before the deadline for the same reason.

I agree, right around the 25th is too busy, and it looks like others feel the same way.

I voted according to my preferences as a reader and someone who will enjoy the products of the Fic Exchange without contributing (sorry about that, but I'm really not a good enough writer to write a custom fic) - but now that I think about it, maybe I shouldn't have, since obviously the writers' preferences are more important.
Anyway, I think it's a great idea. :)

I think it's fine to contribute as a reader! Readers are important too! We want it to be convenient for people to read the fic. :)

I can't believe it's time to start thinking about the holidays. omg.

I'm pretty much good with all the choices above. As far as deadlines go, you should probably think now about how you want to handle defaulters/pinch hits and what happens if someone gives a story but doesn't get one in return. I'm kind of the voice of negativity here, and I apologize for that, but even more than the difficult-to-match requests, I really hated (and found it stressful) that people ended up without stories. The 21st might work better for students and/or people who travel for the holidays, and would allow some wiggle room for covering pinch hits before the actual holiday.

Since most people don't care where it happens, I guess I'll just keep it at lostsquee.

Thanks for all your points. I appreciate the insight - don't worry about being negative. These things happen and it's best to be prepared to deal with them.
