Today is the day of the 2008 NBA Draft! As you can tell, I am quite excited. Okay, that's an understatement, but whatever. Starting at around 7pm, I will be doing my 3rd annual NBA Draft Blog.

For those of you unfamiliar with my NBA Draft Blogs, well, it's essentially a running diary of the events that unfold during the NBA Draft, plus some things that are going on around me (such as people I am speaking with). I should be joined (via MSN) by my buddy and partner in crime, Nicholas Slywchuk. Mind you, Nick and I have never committed a crime, but if the Utah Jazz happen to draft someone from China, well let's just say, all bets are off.

The Jazz happen to be Nick's favorite team. I applaud Nick, really. I mean, who wouldn't love a team that is located in a state where the only black people in the state happen to play for the Utah Jazz? I am aware of the fact that the state of Utah has a pair of good universities for men's basketball (Brigham Young and the University of Utah) but the last 2 NBA players they have produced are Utah alumnus Andrew Bogut and (soon to be draftee) Trent Plaisted of Brigham Young. They are the whitest of white guys.

I understand that those last two jokes seem racially motivated. Keep in mind, I'm poking fun at white people, not black people. I am white so I'm allowed to do that. It's like when you hear rappers such as Ice Cube and 50 Cent use the "N" word to describe their friends and family. Technically it's a racist term, but they are not using it in that manner (except when they talk about somebody they don't like). This is not the case here, as I like Utah and therefore, am not ripping them on a personal level. Just thought i'd clear that up.

This year, I will actually be watching the NBA Draft on T.V. so my blog (or "running diary") should be much more entertaining and informative this year. I am trying to prepare about 5,552 jokes that involve Stuart Scott, Dick Vitale, and Stephen A. Smith, three men who will be analyzing the draft live as it occurs. Stu Scott and Stephen A. Smith will be at the draft, which is taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dick Vitale will be analyzing the draft from his secret lair, some 80 miles underneath the earth's surface. Oh, and of course, my favorite draft analyst, Jay Bilas, should also be there. I won't even get started with him. Screw it. This man ranks intangibles. Keep in mind, intangibles are the great unknown, and yet Bilas RANKS them! Just thought i'd prepare you for tonight.

I hope that two of my other friends, Jay Whitehead and Joe "Gangsta" Bwanka, decide to stay on MSN during the draft. I'm trying to see if Jay wants to hang out during the draft, which would make my running draft diary about 10x better, but we'll have to see.

There have been a few trades consummated that will affect the draft, but I will talk more about them tonight, when my running diary begins, which will be approximately around 7pm ET.

Until then, enjoy your day folks!

-Paul
