Week one

Completed week one of the job. Learning a lot of things. Many things I thought would be easy proved to be a little more challenging, which is actually good. Not really meeting that many people, as I work in an office and not on a set. Might have to change that with my next job so that I can actually meet more people ( Read more... )

What contributes to the general expensiveness of living there? What is the price of gasoline there, anyhow?

Is the job fun?

I wouldn't use the word 'fun' to describe it. It is certainly challenging and I am learning from it - but it isn't 'fun'.

I imagine the general desire to be part of the LA experience makes it expensive. Apartments are in the 2k per month area and gas is up to 3.95 in some places around town.

Even here where gas is allegedly cheap, it's $3.45 at the el cheapo stations, and more in town, so that's not totally out of the question.

What kind of apartment do you get for $2000-$2500?

I was at LA union station over the weekend and the closest gas station there is like 4.35 for the cheap stuff.

I paid about 2.5x the price for my old two bedroom apartment (in a rather affluent suburb of san diego, granted) as I did for the apartment I stayed in when I was taking summer classes at Emory. The cost of living is definitely significantly higher than ATL all around.

Well, sure, I know it's higher, but give me specifics, man! Tell me dollar amounts! :)

The two bedroom I moved out of was going up to 2150$ this month. I'm in a 1500$ one bedroom now.

That is pretty pricey. And this is a chic neighborhood, you say? Are these sort of posh luxury apartments, or just normal places?

The apartment complex I'm living in now is pretty upscale - gated, pool, fitness center, hot tub, etc. The one bedroom I moved into is the cheapest/smallest they offer. This is about 30 min outside San Diego, and well away from LA, so it's not the best barometer for what Louie is talking about, but it's some kind of frame of reference at least.
