God I love staying at Aunt Marg and Uncle Derrick's. This weekend we went to the Howwood Fete which could best be described as a county fair. I wound up shooting a bow and being asked to join the Linwood Archery Club when I get back for Fall.
It's been 12 years since I last shot with a bow and arrows so I was pretty pleased with the outcome of that. Still prefer a gun.
Chris came with and I got veeeeehry close to getting a new handbag, but I talked myself and Chris out of it. Chris' back is giving him grief so he went on home to his orthopedic bed after dinner (steak, corn on the cob, baked potato, raw carrot, couscous and green salads with a honey-liime dressing Aunt Marg picked up at the fete. It's Aunt Marg's 60th and so I made some shortbread which let me tell you I'm going to make again - put on the food blog soon as I get the chance. SO much butter and I'm not a sweets person. Holy hell those came out good though.)
We watched some TV had some beer and talked and then off to bed where I stayed up late as I could chatting.
This morning I've just helped with chores and hung out really. Why I love it here is with Aunt Marg's Scottish/Canadian upbringing I get a lot of stuff I grew up with mixed up with a lot of stuff I've come to love here. Plus there's a Canadian flag wooden garden ornament in the Sottish garden + the car and house keys are on a Canadian flag keychain. I love it here so uh and then I just get these flashes of Canada and it's even more great. Aunt Margaret is a Star Trekkie and loves Flight of the Conchords so we're going to have a mini marathon.
The real AWESOME was getting to have Uncle Derrick's PORRIDGE here. It's like offering me beer or popcorn. I won't say 'no' no matter how drunk, how full or if it's the last serving left. I will be greedy and I don't care. I will pound my fist on the table multiple times to encourage you to insist upon getting porridge when you are in the UK or to learn how to make it. It'll take you a good 15 minutes not making it ala instant and it tastes SO different.
So there's my rant. Today like I said we're doing a TV day + also going to the nursery for flowers.
