Easy come...easy go

Well, I don't work for MDRF any longer.

As most of you know, I started at the Wine Garden this year. It was hard work, but I really enjoyed it, and the extra money was a blessing. Weekend two was a surprise, as Wes left to take care of family matters, and that left Ma (Ricke) and me (the rookie) to do it all. But we did well and had a good time.

Last Monday, Betty had a tummy bug, and stayed home in the morning. She pulled herself together and came in at about 3:00. She tried to contact management by phone, to no avail. She went to the Dragon Inn, and found the other three bartenders there, not busy, and irritated that they would have to split tips four ways, vice three. Betty then checked the Dragon's Lair (Chris left with Wes) and found they had a helper.

She then called me at the Wine Garden. We were backed up and I was starting to stumble over trash. Betty stopped by for a few minutes, gave me time to clear the decks, and then Jackie showed up with a helper for us. She sent Betty back to the Dragon.

Today, Betty got fired for taking matters into her own hands. I called the faire, and was told that they didn't expect me to come in on Saturday. Not quite getting let go, but the implication was there, so I agreed that I didn't need to work for an organization that rewarded loyalty, dedication and sacrifice that way.

So we'll be at the Wine Garden this Saturday...for lunch. Betty can see the faire for the first time in 12 years. I can show her 'my' side of the bar. We can be amongst our friends and 'family'.

And life goes on.
