Finally finished off The Vampire Genevieve by Jack Yeovil(aka. Kim Newman of Anno Dracula fame). Which brings my total read books for 2013 up to... 3. Fuuuuu....
1. Errantry: Strange Stories by Elizabeth Hand
2. Ninja Attack!: True Tales of Assassins, Samurai and Outlaws by Matt Alt and Hiroko Yoda
3. The Vampire Genevieve by Jack Yeovil
I really enjoyed it, though it took a little while to get through. It's a collection of stories featuring Genevieve, a predecessor of sorts to the Genevieve from Newman's Anno Dracula stories, but quite often she's a peripheral character in them. Despite, or perhaps because of Yeovil/Newman's willingness to sideline the title character we get a wide variety of tales featuring a large and varied cast of characters. Detectives, scryers, playwrights, revolutionaries, nobleman, serial killers and more. It's really a pretty solid collection and many of the stories are nice satirical takes on the fantasy and related genres. Good stuff.
