fresh start

Words: zero.
An empty page, a fresh start
Finishing the beginning of the end
Stepping out with a hesitant glance behind
No. I won’t look back.
You keep tempo and keep track
My every move is marked
A path woven through a barely coherent crowd
Mindless and numb, the passing of time
If I spoke you would never remember
Heedless of sensation we meander onward
Following, leading
An endless cycle, a power struggle

I built too large a bridge.
Now my fire can’t consume the past
Hard as I try to leave you, her, everything
Behind.

Forward, fresh start
New beginning, I know
Understand that part of me loves that.
Most of me wants that
But I’ll never be new

By ten I was ancient
Now crumbling, deteriorating
A rolling stone, but with moss
A grasp on sanity, an impossibility
I’ve lost a brilliant game of Russian Roulette

Nothing will solve that.
How about a fresh start?
