I spent the day with
samena today, planning our holiday in New Zealand next February. It's going to be so much fun! Plus, now that the Hobbit's been safeguarded against deportation (*shudder*) and will definitely remain in NZ (YAY!), it's bound to be even more exciting as filming starts while we're there! I'm hoping it won't mess up our itinerary too much, but of course I am overjoyed at the news!
Merlin tonight was great, and even better for having someone to fangirl with.
I loved all the interaction between Arthur, Merlin and Gwaine. And I loved the fact that the three of them form some sort of trinity (although I'd rather have seen it with Lancelot): Arthur as Courage, Gwaine as Strength, and Merlin as Magic. For a moment there I even thought they'd go with a Reveal, but no dice. Sigh.
I am also really glad that Gwen has finally realised that her BFF from the last two series has been replaced by a smirky evil pod person. This means she and Merlin can team up to save Arthur!
And there was an Arthur/Gwen kiss! And it wasn't dramatic or underscored by wailing violins; it was just sweet and casual yet not. Loved it!
I still hate Evil!Morgana, though. Just in case you were wondering.
Since the past week has been all about The Hobbit and my LOTR nostalgia, I have decided that my Fic of the Week should reflect this, so I have chosen to go for
Nexus by Willow-Wode. It's the best Frodo/Merry story ever, written within her (now sadly offline) Rites Of Passage saga.
The Story: Frodo and Bilbo are having a quiet night in, which is interrupted when Merry barges in, announcing that he's run away from home. As the night goes on, Frodo comes to the realisation that Merry isn't a child anymore, and that he came to Bag End to show him just that.
The Love: You can tell that this author is also an artist, because the pictures she paints with her words are vivid and spellbinding. The sex scenes are so intimate and real. And you just have to love how she writes Merry, determined but still awkward with his new adulthood, and Frodo trying to resist him but wanting him so much at the same time. Also, even though he's hardly in it at all: I love her Bilbo.
The Rest: Nothing much really, except that you don't have to have read ROP to follow it.
Oh, and I have a new nephew! My cousin's wife gave birth to a son this morning. Tomorrow's my Nan's birthday, so I suspect I'll have to listen to all the gory details during the family dinner. Yay.
